Many of you are familiar with the Island
of Lights committee.
For those who are not, let me tell you a bit about the group.
This non-profit organization, staffed solely by volunteers, works
year-round to promote our island communities and to raise funds to
dress the island up during the winter Holidays. . . Everyone
works feverishly to be certain that everything is ready
by Thanksgiving weekend.
Lights and banners signal the arrival of the holiday season,
and Light-up by the Lake always reveals some new and exciting display.
The first week in December is filled with night-time
delights highly anticipated by residents and guests alike.
On Friday evening, (this year it happens to be the 6th of December)
children from one to one hundred line up to enjoy a parade in which
all entries MUST be covered in lights.
Saturday night brings our Holiday Flotilla,
bathing the Carolina Beach Sound in light, as boaters
from many areas arrive in their light be-decked boats
to participate in this water-way parade.
